Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know that Frutor is for me?

Before your student is assigned to a tutor on our team, Frutor offers a free 30-minute consultation to meet both parents and child to assess where your child can improve.

How do I sign up for a free consultation?

You can sign up at frutor.us/consultation or if the listed times don’t work, please email us at friendlytutor@frutor.us with your available times.

What is the consultation?

The consultation is a 30-minute Zoom call with our founders to learn more about your child in both academic and extracurricular settings. During the consultation, not only do we learn about what the student needs to achieve their academic goals, but we also want to learn about their interests outside of school to ensure a tutor-student pairing that would form into a mentor-mentee relationship.

What does the typical Frutor session look like?

Frutor takes a three-pronged approach to the long term academic goal. Our first priority is to ensure that your student is caught up with the chapter or lesson they are working on in school. Once they show that they understand the school’s material, our tutors supplement their work with our resources of problems and exercise. Finally, when your student has mastered the topic, we want them to excel and learn ahead of the curve in their school curriculum.

Who are the tutors?

Our tutors are all current students at top schools across the nation, and all have previous tutoring experience. During our screening process, all tutors go through an extensive application and interview process to ensure that your student will be receiving the highest quality of tutoring and mentorship.

Can I select a tutor from your team?

Yes, you can let us know if you have a strong preference for a tutor from the "Our Team," page during the consultation. We will take your preference into account, along with the tutor's availability, as well as their compatibility with your student.

Do you offer SAT/ACT® help?

Yes. All our SAT and ACT tutors have scored upwards of 1500 and 34 on each test respectively. You can check our Standardized Testing page to learn more: https://www.frutor.us/standarized-testing

How do I pay for these sessions?

We primarily work through Zelle, while Online Bank Transfers and Paypal are alternatives as well. Zelle and Online Bank Transfers are free, while Paypal does charge a percentage for its transaction fee (2.9% + $0.30 for transfers within the US, 4.4% + flat fee that varies based on the currency used).

Do you offer a trial lesson/packages?

Yes! We believe that the chemistry between the tutor and student is of utmost importance to fostering a mentor relationship, so the first class is a no-commitment, paid lesson. If you enjoy the session with our tutor, classes proceed in ten-hour package payments.

How do I schedule sessions with my tutor?

Once you choose to work with Frutor, you and the student will be in direct contact with the tutor, via email or phone, so scheduling is entirely up to the tutor and your schedule. Most of our tutors are available between four to seven days a week.

Is there a referral program?

Yes. You can earn a free one-hour session when referring Frutor to another student who signs up for a 10-hour package. The referee will also get a free one-hour session.
